โ LaunchPadA notice for parents and guardians
Your child's school has chosen to use LaunchPad, a free learning path from ALTDAP for young people in Nigeria. This page explains in plain language what it is, what we keep, and how you can say no.
What your child will learn
LaunchPad is made for adolescents first. It is a set of short lessons with a quiz after each one. Topics include:
- Drug harm prevention, recovery and how to ask for help without shame
- Mental health, feelings, coping and supportive listening
- Digital safety, media literacy and staying private online
- Money, scams and healthy living
- Peer pressure, decision-making and how to say no
- Healthy relationships, consent and personal safety, written to protect and never to blame
- Life skills, confidence, goals and purpose
- Getting help, supporting a friend and what to do in an emergency
- Digital skills, peer education, working with families and schools, and asking good questions
Some topics are sensitive, such as drugs, relationships and personal safety. The lessons are written to be gentle and protective, they are never graphic, and they never blame a young person for something done to them.
What your child is never asked to do
- Share personal experiences, or say whether they or anyone they know uses drugs.
- Post, upload or share photos, names or stories.
- Compete for points, badges or rankings. LaunchPad has none.
- Keep secrets from the trusted adults who care for them. The lessons tell young people to tell a trusted adult if something worries them.
What is stored, and who can see it
- Stored: which lessons your child has finished and their quiz score for each, linked to the account the school sets up. We also keep anonymous counts of how many people start and finish a lesson, with no name or address attached.
- Not stored: any answer about personal life, any private writing the learner does as a task, or any record of consent for under-16s beyond what the school confirms.
- Who can see it: your child, and the school that set up the group (its administrator and facilitator). It is not sold and not used for advertising.
Read our Privacy Policy for the full details.
If you would prefer your child does not take part
You can say no at any time, for any reason. Tell your child's school, ideally the named safeguarding lead for the group. Your child will be taken out of the group without penalty, and nothing different will show in the school's reports.
If your child is upset, or in danger
Every lesson tells young people that if something upsets or worries them they can stop and tell a trusted adult. If you or your child are ever in immediate danger, call 112. You can also open our emergency page. LaunchPad is a learning programme. It is not counselling or medical care.
